30 Carbine

The .30 Carbine is a rimless carbine/rifle cartridge used in the M1 Carbine introduced in the 1940s. Shortly before World War II, the U.S. Army started a project for a “light rifle” which would provide support personnel and rear area units a weapon with more firepower and accuracy than the standard issue M1911A1 and that would be half the weight of the standard issue M1 Garand rifle. The .30 Carbine cartridge was developed by Winchester and submitted originally without a carbine design. The .30 carbine cartridge saw great popularity in the civilian market leading to the development of a few handguns chambered for this round like the Ruger Blackhawk and the AMT Automag III.
