380 ACP

380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) is a rimless, straight-walled pistol cartridge developed by John Moses Browning. It was introduced in 1908 by Colt for use in the Colt 1908 pocket hammerless semi-automatic and has been a popular self-defense cartridge ever since. 380 ACP was derived from the earlier .38 ACP which was only marginally more powerful. The relatively low-powered design is intended for blowback pistols which lack a barrel locking mechanism, which is often required for any handgun firing a round more powerful than .380 ACP.
