45-70

The .45-70 cartridge, also known as .45-70 Government and .45-70 Springfield was developed in the U.S. Army’s Springfield Armory for use in the Springfield Model 1873, which is known as the “Trapdoor Springfield”. This new cartridge was a replacement for the stop-gap .50-70 cartridge from 1866. As usual in military ammunition, the .45-70 was an immediate hit among sportsmen and has survived to the present day. Considered adequate for any North American big game within range limitations, it does not destroy edible meat on smaller animals such as deer due to the bullets low velocity. At Velocity, we strive to stock a wide variety of the best brands shooters are looking for. We carry everything from range ammunition to personal protection and specialty application ammo to suit a wide variety of needs.
